Dear Member/Supporter,

We are delighted to announce that the FEI Board has approved the Memorandum of Understanding(“MOU”) between the FEI and the International Carriage Drivers Association”ICDA”). The MOU was signed by both parties in November 2024.

Under the terms of the MOU the FEI recognises ICDA as the sole international organisation representing the collective views of international drivers. ICDA not only recognises the FEI as the sole international governing body for FEI Equestrian disciplines but also commits itself, inter alia, to good corporate governance and to apply the FEI Code of Conduct for the Welfare of the Horse, the FEI Equestrian Charter and the Equine Welfare Strategy.

ICDA was founded to benefit equestrian sport; to uphold the spirit of good sportsmanship; to support the growth of carriage driving; to increase the number of athletes that participate in international competitions and to promote sportsmanship across all driving disciplines.

Conclusion of negotiations with the FEI now means the MOU represents best practice in terms of corporate governance provisions. All driving disciplines are represented on the Committee. U25 representation has been added. Membership now extends to all active registered FEI Athletes.

Signing of the MOU now means that Athletes will be able collectively to engage directly with the FEI through ICDA. This is hugely important as we approach the full Rules Revision next year for implementation in 2026. ICDA has already demonstrated that by working collaboratively across disciplines it is possible to deliver positive outcomes and this will be more important than ever as Driving considers its strategic options.

ICDA has secured sponsorship to enable membership to remain free for 2025.

We thank you for your patience in getting to this point. We now look forward to engaging with members and supporters alike to ensure we capture the very best ideas in the shaping of driving in the years ahead.

ICDA Committee
